Assessments
St. Louise Parish School believes that assessing students should be a balanced process that captures a comprehensive view of students' academic, social, and emotional growth. To achieve this balance, we assess our students in the following ways:
1. Formative Assessments take place during the learning process and inform both instruction and student progress. They can include tests, quizzes, group work, and student reflections.
2. Summative Assessments evaluate students’ knowledge and skills after a period of instruction. They can include end-of-unit tests, projects, and standardized tests. We use the following standardized tests:
St. Louise MAP results 2024-25 - St. Louise students in 3-8th grade scored higher than 66% of all other students nationwide. We are aiming to
reach the 70% percentile in 2025. 30% of our students are already above the 80th percentile. Our students take the test 3x per year (Fall, Winter, Spring). The results are used by our teachers to meet the individual learning needs of their students.

3. Diagnostic Assessments are used at the start of the year (or unit) to help identify students’ current skills and areas where they may need additional support.
4. Portfolio Assessments are used at some grade-levels to demonstrate a student’s progress over time, including drafts, reflections, final products, and teacher feedback.
5. Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Assessments can help ensure students are developing the skills needed to manage emotions, establish positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Most often, these assessments take the form of teacher observation.
6. Rubrics are used at some grade-levels and provide clear criteria to help students understand what is expected and allow for consistent, objective grading.
7. Teacher Collaboration and Professional Development are essential components of an excellent school. Teachers meet regularly in teams to discuss assessments, share best practices, and ensure consistency across grades. Balancing standardized and more personalized methods of assessment, while making sure that students' well-being is always considered, can help foster a positive and supportive learning environment.
