Middle School Math

Middle School Math at St. Louise School

At St. Louise School, our middle school math program builds a strong foundation in problem-solving, reasoning, and real-world application. Using the Reveal Math curriculum, students progress from arithmetic to algebra and beyond, developing confidence and fluency across mathematical concepts.

6th Grade – Building a Strong Foundation

Sixth grade serves as the bridge between arithmetic and algebra. Students move from concrete number work to abstract reasoning, deepening their understanding of rational numbers (fractions, decimals, and negative numbers). They begin exploring algebraic thinking through expressions and equations, apply geometry concepts such as area and volume, and engage in data analysis and statistics.

7th Grade – Pre-Algebra and Algebra Readiness

Seventh grade pre-algebra strengthens fluency with rational numbers and builds connections toward formal algebra. Students explore ratios, rates, and proportions, and gain confidence working with variables, equations, and basic functions. Geometry, measurement, and data analysis are integrated throughout to reinforce conceptual understanding. By the end of 7th grade, most students demonstrate readiness for Algebra I.

8th Grade – Algebra I

In eighth grade, students take Algebra I, exploring linear relationships, functions, equations, and real numbers while building fluency in algebraic reasoning. The course emphasizes conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and preparation for high school mathematics. Successful completion of Algebra I enables students to begin high school at the Geometry level.
