Student Support
At St. Louise School, our primary goal is to create an inclusive classroom environment that supports all learning styles, ensuring that every student is set up for success. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive support services that address the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students within a nurturing community.
Commitment to Inclusivity
Our approach to education is rooted in the belief that every child deserves personalized attention and resources. We focus on fostering a learning environment where students feel valued and empowered. By embracing diverse learning styles, we help each child reach their full potential.
Academic Support
We support the academic needs of our students in a variety of ways, all of which are designed to be integrated with classroom instruction. Much of this academic support occurs in our Learning Lab.
Learning Specialists:
- One-on-one and small group instruction tailored to each student's needs.
- Strategies for differentiated instruction that align with the classroom curriculum.
- Regular communication with parents to ensure a cohesive support system.
- Our dedicated learning specialists collaborate with classroom teachers to develop individualized Student Support Plans that address specific challenges.
Occupational Therapy (OT):
- Executive functioning skills (time management, focus, organization, emotional control).
- Fine, gross, and visual motor skills.
- Sensory processing.
- Social skills.
- Provided by Mrs. Mansi Dalal, OTD, OTR/L, founder of Butterfly Pediatric Therapy.
Speech Therapy:
- Provided by Mrs. Andrea Shull, CCC-SLP, a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. The program helps students with:
- Articulation skills (clarity in producing sounds, words, and sentences).
- Oral motor skills (coordination of oral muscles).
- Feeding and swallowing difficulties.
- Expressive and receptive language skills.
- Social pragmatic skills.
- Stuttering and fluency issues.
Afterschool Homework Club: A supervised space for students to begin their daily homework.
Before & Afterschool Tutorials: Offered to students identified as needing additional one-on-one or small group instruction.
Enrichment Opportunities: Middle school students can participate in the Decathlon program, which challenges them to demonstrate knowledge and skills in various subjects.
Social-Emotional Support
We support the social-emotional needs of our students by providing a positive classroom experience led by outstanding faculty who care deeply about student well-being. Additional programs include:
- Friendzy: A Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program for students from Preschool through middle school, focusing on academic success, emotional growth, and well-being.
- School Counselor: View counselor page. Responsibilities include:
- Helping students build confidence, develop study skills, and transition to the next grade.
- Counseling students individually and in small groups.
- Referring students to outside agencies for additional support.
- Listening to concerns from students, parents, and staff.
- Providing guidance during transitions or times of need.
- Collaborating with teachers and administrators to support student growth.
- Advocating for equity and access for all students.
