Music

 

     The study of music and drama allows us to celebrate and preserve our cultural heritage, as well as explore the realms of expression, imagination, and creation. Experiencing the study of music and drama involves analysis, problem solving, history, culture, perception, presentations, performance, appreciation, and positive social interaction. Participation in vocal and instrumental music helps students develop a basic musical language and stimulates the student’s entire brain. The student will comprehend and interpret various contexts of music to make interdisciplinary connections.

 

     Each concert includes speaking, singing, acting, and instrument playing around a concert theme. The concerts for each grade level rotates throughout the calendar each year. This gives everyone a change to perform in the Christmas Concert at least once during their elementary years.

     

     Grades Pre-K-Grade 6 receive Music Education classes according to the following schedule:

      Junior High students may sing in music for 20 minutes when time permits for a Prayer Service or Mass held throughout the year. This prepares our students for our liturgies and Masses held during the liturgical calendar and helps them serve as a role model for our younger students.

Junior High students are also offered a set and design experience if they like. Students help create and design sets, props, and posters for the St. Louise Spring Musical.

 

      Concerts are held throughout the year. Each grade level participates with a partner grade. The concert dates vary according to the school calendar and rotate each year. This is to assure that each grade level has an opportunity to perform in the Christmas Pageant at least once during Grades 1-6. Concerts are considered an important part of the music and drama curriculum. All students are expected to participate during the concert. Missing a concert impacts a student’s music grade.      The St. Louise Parish School music program is designed to bring out each student’s musical best. Each person is blessed with gifts and every student has musical ability.
