PRESENT: Tony Aikens, Dan Fitzpatrick, Todd Heric, Jill Leland, Terry Makowski, Tracy Neighbors, Louise Nguyen, Ted Noble, Anne Read-Andersen, Warren Rheaume, Cindy Scruggs, Joanie Staiger.

ABSENT: Fr. Tom Belleque, Helen Frank, Trina Legnon, Mike Morgan.

MINUTES: The March School Commission Meeting minutes were approved.

FACULTY REPORT: Mrs. Scruggs described the beautiful chalk Lenten drawings her fourth graders have done recently. The drawings are temporary, so she advised parents and others to visit her classroom before the drawings are taken down at the end of Lent.

ADMINISTRATION’S REPORT: Dan Fitzpatrick reported on progress in filling the six open faculty positions this year. (Barbara Costello, Jeannie Vahlsing and Anne Wermus are retiring, Diane Shepp is moving out of state, and Erin Aiken and Tammy Yerke will stay home to spend time with their children (or soon-to-be children)). All of our departing faculty will be missed. Luckily, there is a large pool of applicants and interviews should be completed before Easter.

PARENTS’ CLUB REPORT: Terry Makowski reported that recruiting for next year’s open positions on the Parents’ Club is progressing nicely. The budget for the next fiscal year has been approved, with a substantial increase in expected auction proceeds for next year and a resulting decrease in expected surplus from the auction. A fundraiser through Squak Mountain nursery is currently being conducted on a trial basis, and the Parents’ Club is considering other voluntary fundraisers such as scrip or a school carnival.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  1. Marketing and Development: Plans are being finalized for Alumni Career Day.

  2. Planning and Policy: The committee finalized its draft of the “student-community profile” portion of the self-study.

  3. Finance: The committee discussed the school’s long-range financial plan.

OLD BUSINESS: Nancy Del Rosario, Todd Heric, and Tracy Neighbors have been selected to fill the three open positions on the Commission. Congratulations to our new members! Outgoing members will be honored at the May 27, 2004 Commission meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: Joanie Staiger reported on the progress of the re-accreditation report. All of the committees are finalizing their portions of the report and the final draft will be edited by the Leadership Team for consistency. The visiting team will be on-site in October 2004 and will receive the final re-accreditation report along with attached raw data. Teachers are creating “evidence binders” to document the school’s adherence to our SLEs for review by the visiting team.

The meeting was adjourned by Tony Aikens at 7:55 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted, Anne Read-Andersen, Secretary
