ADMISSIONS POLICY

St. Louise Parish School was established in 1961 in order to provide an excellent education with a Roman Catholic foundation to St. Louise Parish families. The primary goal of the admissions process is to identify and admit those students best suited to benefit from the St. Louise School educational program and whose parents hold values and goals consistent with those of the Catholic Church and of the school as demonstrated by their commitment to parish involvement. The objective and subjective factors include balance of class needs and appropriate social skills, maturity, citizenship, and character. St. Louise Parish School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, or sexual orientation in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Administration of Policy

A. The official application period for admittance will be in February. Families who submit applications during this period will be given priority over any applications submitted after the conclusion of the official application period.
B. The order of preference for being considered for admittance is:

  1. A child currently attending St. Louise School. (For Pre-K admittance, the date of the sibling’s initial enrollment in St. Louise School will be used to prioritize this preference, with the earliest enrolled families getting first priority.)
  2. A child with a sibling currently attending or with a parent currently employed by St. Louise School.
  3. A child of a family who is registered in St. Louise Parish and has shown a commitment to the parish by consistent stewardship.
  4. A child of a family who is in the process of moving to our parish from out of town, is currently attending another Catholic school, is registered in a Roman Catholic parish, and has shown a commitment to their parish by consistent stewardship.
  5. A child of a family who is registered in a financially supporting parish of St. Louise School – Mary Queen of Peace Parish (Sammamish), Our Lady of Sorrows Parish (Snoqualmie), Holy Innocents (Duvall), Blessed Teresa (Woodinville), or St. Anthony Mission (Carnation) – and has shown a commitment to their parish by consistent contributions of time, talent, and treasure.
  6. A child of a parent who is a St. Louise School alumni/alumnae, is registered in a Roman Catholic parish, and has shown a commitment to their parish by consistent stewardship.
  7. A child of a family who is registered in any other Catholic parish not named above and has shown a commitment to their parish by consistent stewardship.
  8. Others.

C. Current St. Louise School students are considered for admittance when they fulfill their family’s current year commitments with parish financial support (if paying the contributing parishioner tuition rate), fund raising, volunteering, and tuition and provide the following during the official application period: application fee; signed tuition and volunteer contract; completed student information form.

D. To be considered for admittance, parents of applicants new to St. Louise School begin the application process in January by meeting with the principal or vice-principal. All new applicants then must provide the following during the official application period:

  1. Fulfillment of their family’s current year commitments with parish financial support (if paying the contributing parishioner tuition rate), fund raising, volunteering, and tuition. This applies only to a child with a sibling currently attending St. Louise School.
  2. Application fee.
  3. Signed Parent Contract.
  4. Completed student information form.
  5. Current school’s progress report or report card.
  6. Positive recommendation form from the applicant’s current teacher.
  7. Standardized test scores if available (if not available, the school may request the applicant be tested at St. Louise).
  8. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade applicants may be interviewed by an administrator and/or a teacher.
  9. Kindergarten applicants will be assessed for kindergarten readiness by the kindergarten teachers and must be recommended for admittance by the kindergarten teachers after this assessment.

E. When the application process is completed, the school will notify the family whether or not the applicant is admitted or in a waiting pool.

  1. The waiting pool is in effect beginning at this notification and extending until the application process for the next school year begins in January.
  2. Once the application process for the next school year begins in January, an applicant who was in the waiting pool must reapply.
  3. Recognizing the commitment a reapplying family has made to the school, special note will be taken of this reapplication.

F. Washington State specifies that a child must be five years old on or before August 31st of the year that he/she would enter kindergarten and six years old on or before August 31st of the year that he/she would enter first grade. (Contact principal to discuss consideration for “early entrance” in kindergarten or first grade for children with September 1-30 birth dates.) Pre-K applicants must be four years old on or before August 31st of the year that he/she would enter preschool. (There is no consideration for “early entrance” in Pre-K for students who will turn four years old after August 31.)

G. A new or transferring student’s admission to school is considered conditional during the first year until all transcripts from the previous school are received in our school office and until the student has demonstrated successful achievement in his/her St. Louise classes.

H. The target class size is 18 students in Pre-K and 26 students in grades K-8.

I. A fulltime instructional assistant will assist the Pre-K teacher when the Pre-K class size exceeds 13. A fulltime instructional assistant will assist the kindergarten teacher when the kindergarten class size exceeds 20.
